Quick overview

Nero Video lets you open any template downloaded from the Nero Creative Center, drop your own clips into the ready-made placeholders, tweak fonts, colors, titles and effects, preview the result in full-screen, and then export in the format you need—all in just a few minutes. Templates are updated regularly, cover resolutions up to 8K, and can even be saved as your own custom presets for future projects. The questions below walk through the steps, options and best practices users most often ask about.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do I need before I start?
Download the template you like from creative.nero.com/video-template, then launch Nero Video and choose Open Template. Nero Video is available for Windows and is part of Nero Platinum Suite, but can also be purchased on its own.
  • How do I open a downloaded template?
Open Nero Video → Home screen → Open Template. Browse to the *.nvt file you just downloaded and click Open.
  • Can I add my own videos and photos?
Yes. Click Import at the top right of "My Media", select files from your PC or camera, and drag them onto the timeline placeholders. Nero Video automatically trims them to fit.
  • How do I change the text, colors or fonts in a template?
Select any title on the timeline, type new text in the preview window, and use the text inspector to pick your preferred font, size and color scheme.
  • Can I customize transitions or add extra effects?
Absolutely. Open the Effect Palette to drag and drop more than 1,000 stock effects—video, audio, text, transitions, clip art and backgrounds—onto the timeline.
  • How do I preview the whole video before exporting?
Click the full-screen preview icon above the timeline; you can pause, resume or scrub the play head to check every change in real time.
  • What export formats and resolutions are supported?
The export dialog lets you pick AVC, AVCHD, MP4, HEVC, and more, up to the maximum template resolution (most Creative Center templates reach 7680 x 4320 / 8K).
  • How often are new templates added to the Creative Center?
Nero updates the gallery “regularly” and highlights what’s trending each week on the landing page, so check back frequently.
  • Are all templates free?
Currently, all templates are free; some premium packs in the future may require purchase. Free templates show a Free Download button on their detail page.
  • Can I create and save my own reusable template?
Yes. After finishing an edit, choose Save As → Save as Template, pick which tracks should stay fixed and which should become placeholders, then give the template a name.
  • Where does Nero Video store my personal templates?
You can decide where to save your personal templates, like your personal document folder or other places on your computer, even external storage or cloud drives.
  • Can I mix Creative Center templates with my personal ones?
Certainly—just open multiple templates in separate projects, copy the tracks you like, and paste them into a master project timeline.
  • My footage is longer than the placeholder—what now?
Either trim the clip before dropping it in, or—after placement—use the edge drag handles on the timeline to shorten or extend it, then right click to Close Gap if needed.
  • Can I burn the finished video to DVD or Blu-ray?
Yes. From the Export screen choose Create Disc, pick DVD, AVCHD or Blu-ray, and follow the disc menu wizard (which includes hundreds more menu templates).
  • Where can I ask for a template that doesn’t exist yet?
Use the “Request a Template” link shown on every Creative Center page to submit your idea directly to the Nero design team.
